Rent To Home Buy - try before you buy

The Rent to HomeBuy scheme from Acis is designed to give you time to save enough money for a deposit to buy a home.

The Rent to HomeBuy scheme is open to households earning less that £60,000 (joint applicants) or £45,000 (single applicants) per year who would otherwise be unable to buy a home.

You will be eligible if you are either:

A first time buyer
A previous home owner who cannot now afford to buy without help (perhaps because of a break down within a relationship)
A Housing Association or Council tenant
A ‘key worker’ (a key public sector worker, such as a nurse or teacher)

Preference will be given to those people that have a local link with the area that they are looking to move into. For example, to those currently living in the area, with family links, employment links or children’s schooling. A credit score will also be carried out before any application can proceed to a tenancy with us.

Homes can be rented for up to three years at the reduced rate of 80% of market value. The scheme has been designed to give you time to save enough money for a deposit to buy the property. You will have the first option to buy the property at the end of the first year of renting. At that stage, if you go on to buy the property or a share in it, you will receive back the rent you’ve paid in the first 6 months towards the deposit for your mortgage, depending on the share that you go on to purchase.

For a limited time Acis have extended this offer to 12 months from the original 6 months period.

At the end of the three year period we will look at your situation again. If you can afford to then you can buy part of the property under the New Build HomeBuy scheme (shared ownership). If we find that that you cannot afford to buy any share of the property we will review your tenancy. However, there is no guarantee that it will be renewed and you may be given the appropriate notice to vacate the property.
