What to expect

An important factor in this type of housing is the presence of a resident manager, who lives in accommodation which is linked by an alarm system to the individual homes of each and every resident. This means that in an emergency situation - such as when a client suffers a sudden illness or a fall - the person involved can quickly get in touch with the Scheme Manager for help. In addition, there are many other facilities and services, designed to make life as easy as possible for the residents and to encourage mutual support and contact between neighbours.

The majority of manager-supported accommodation has communal facilities such as rooms for social activities, laundries with washing machines and dryers, and guest rooms for the use of residents' visitors. The communal rooms are used for various activities such as coffee mornings and other social events, organised by the Scheme Manager or by the residents themselves. The people living in the schemes are always encouraged to participate, to help in organising activities and to give their support generally to contribute to the successful running of the scheme.
