Right to Buy / Right to Aquire

Right to buy / Right to acquire

Buying your home

We understand that the time may come when you feel you are ready to buy your Acis home. You can apply to do this using either the Right to Buy or the Right to Acquire.

Stamp duty land tax (SDLT) thresholds mean that if you buy property and the purchase price is £175,000 or less you don't pay any SDLT at all.  As of 12 March 2008, stamp duty on shared ownership homes will not be required until buyers own 80 per cent of the equity in their home.

The Right to Buy

You should use the Right to Buy if you were a tenant of West Lindsey District Council on 18th October 1999. This was the date when West Lindsey’s houses were transferred to Acis Group.

If you are living in one of our homes in Sheffield and were a tenant before 19 March 2007 you should use the Right to Buy. This was the date when the homes were transferred to Acis Group. (If you became a tenant after 19th March 2007, you could apply for Right to Acquire.)

The Right to Buy takes into account the amount of time you have spent as a tenant, and lets you use this towards a discount off the purchase price.

The Right to Acquire

You should use the Right to Acquire in West Lindsey if you became an Acis tenant after 18th October 1999. In Sheffield you can use the Right to Acquire if you became a tenant after 19th March 2007.
