EP19 | Weekly wellbeing calls help Margaret stay positive

From weekly wellbeing calls to delivering essentials to doorsteps, our EP-19 team go above and beyond to show that no one has to face lockdown alone.

For some of our most vulnerable customers, finding ways to tackle loneliness has been the key focus.

But for others like 74-year-old Margaret from Welton, it’s all about keeping busy and staying positive.

Back in March, Margaret had no idea that she would be facing the next eight months stuck at home.

While the thought of spending more than 200 days home alone is daunting to some, it’s a reality Margaret had already gotten used to.

After living alone for more than 30 years, she was content filling her days with walks around the garden and afternoons spent enjoying her favourite box sets.

Unaware of how she’d adjust to lockdown, Erica from our EP-19 team reached out early on to see if there was any support we could offer her. From there, the pair kept in touch with weekly chats over the phone.

Despite being happy spending the time alone, Margaret still found our free befriending service to be a great way to lift her spirits on days where she was feeling a little fed up.

Margaret said: “Sometimes it’s difficult to get out of bed when you know you’re not going anywhere but you just carry on don’t you.

“It’s nice to know that there’s someone out there who cares. You can feel it that they care. That little bit of moral support means a lot.”

While it’s always important to check-in on those who may be feeling lonely, it’s just as important to make sure that you’re choosing solutions that work for them.

For Margaret, having a friendly voice to catch up with was enough.

Do you know someone like Margaret who could benefit from our help?

If you or someone you know needs support during this difficult time, we’re here to help!
