The national increase in property demand following the easing of lockdown has been mirrored in Barnsley, with a new development seeing a huge surge in demand.
The new 60-home Wells Lane development in Wombwell is being built by Vistry Partnerships Yorkshire on behalf of housing provider Acis.
With a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes available for sale, shared ownership and affordable rent, the site is sparking the interest in people from Barnsley and the surrounding area.
Statistics show an upsurge in interest of 143% in the homes as lockdown started to ease. The interest has resulted in 13 interested parties snapping up the first properties available, just days after becoming available.
The news comes as housing demand rose 88% nationally when the housing market reopened following the coronavirus lockdown, according to Zoopla. Their figures also show that two thirds of would-be movers across England say they still plan to go ahead with their property plans.
Acis received funding from Homes England to develop the 4.23-acre plot, on the former site of Wombwell Oakfield Junior School which remained undeveloped since its closure in 2007.
The properties all boast parking, enclosed gardens, modern kitchens with fitted appliances, spacious living rooms, gas central heating and double glazing throughout and vinyl flooring in kitchens, bathrooms and downstairs WCs. Prices start from just £142,000 for sale and £60,000 for a 50% share in a shared ownership property.
