Impress employers at interview

We know how nerve-racking interviews can be. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you conquer your nerves and ace your next interview.

  • Research, research and research. It’s very likely that the interviewer will ask you why you like their company or why you want to work for them. So, research about the company and the industry they’re in. It might help to answer the question, ‘why them?’
  • Strengths and weaknesses. Make a list of all your strengths and weaknesses and then pick out the ones that relate to the job you’re applying for. Think, what makes you stand out from the crowd? These are your selling points. It’s what you’ll take into the interview to show that you’re ready for and interested in the position.
  • Think of their concerns. The interviewer may point out something that you’re missing. Whether that’s something in your skillset or lack of experience. When you’ve established your weaknesses related to the job role, prepare a defence. For example: “I don’t have much experience, but I have volunteered my time shadowing people in similar roles to gain a better understanding of how you work.”
  • Prepare common interview questions. We recommend looking over the most common interview questions and practice answering them in an interview style with a friend or family member. But don’t over practice. You don’t want it to sound like you’re reading from a script in the real interview.
  • Bring your own questions. Coming to an interview equipped with questions shows your knowledge of the company or industry. It also shows that you’re taking the interview seriously and interested in the position.
