We’re marking Safeguarding Adults Week this week (17-21 November), by shining a light on the crucial role organisations like Acis Group play in protecting vulnerable members of our communities.

At Acis Group we know that safeguarding matters. We have a legal, contractual, and moral duty to protect children and adults at risk and to assist statutory authorities in meeting their duties.

Our training programme and easy-to-use reporting channels, mean that our teams are equipped to identify and report any safeguarding concerns they spot, which can often prove to be a lifeline for a customer in need of support.

Last month (October 2025) alone, 13 new safeguarding reports were raised by our teams, meaning vital support from our services and partners could reach vulnerable individuals, which might not otherwise have been possible, with 19 previously open concerns resolved following our actions.

In one case, a member of our income team raised safeguarding concerns over the wellbeing of a customer following a routine call to check on missing housing benefit payments.

The customer was unable to read or write and was hard of hearing, which had made it difficult for her to challenge an administrative error that had impacted benefit payments. She feared that she might lose her home and together with a recent family bereavement, it was having a significant impact on her emotional wellbeing.

Through the quick thinking of our income officer, a range of support has now been put in place. Her housing benefits payments are reinstated through our assistance, an NHS referral for hearing aids is in place, as well as mental health support for bereavement counselling and enrolment on a stop smoking programme.

In addition, measures have been made with partner agencies to record the resident’s vulnerabilities and tailor communication methods to ensure future issues don’t arise and we’ve also installed adaptations in the home to help with easier access.

Paul Woollam, director of customer excellence at Acis Group and safeguarding group chair, said: “Reporting safeguarding concerns can make a real difference to individual lives and might even help save lives. We recognise the role we play as a key service in our communities and our strong focus on safeguarding means we might be the start of connecting someone to the support they desperately need.”
