A group of media-savvy learners are preparing to star on local radio after being inspired by a masterclass delivered through Clip in Gainsborough.
Eight lucky students who study at Clip, part of Acis Group’s education and skills team, gained insider tips on radio presenting during a session led by Trentside Radio founder Gerald Buckle.
The budding broadcasters are now teaming up with Gerald for a string of ‘appearances’ on Trentside Radio - even if their real voices won’t be heard. Tune in here: www.trentsideradio.co.uk.
A "big hit" with learners
During the masterclass, they were shown how to create jingles and scripts, produce programmes and podcasts, and were introduced to the growing role of AI in the industry.
Lucy Binns, course leader at Clip in Gainsborough, said: “The broadcast media masterclass with Gerald was a big hit with our learners.
“As well as giving them a brilliant insight into the industry, it sparked their creativity and they’re now coming up with ideas for programmes so they can run a ‘takeover’ of Trentside Radio in the near future.
“This is such a fantastic opportunity and we feel so fortunate to be able to offer this kind of experience to our learners who work so hard on getting the qualifications they need to pursue the careers they want.”
A second-year student, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s good that we get to try different things - even if we don’t want our voice to be on the radio.”
Making young voices heard in Gainsborough
Gerald said: “As Gainsborough’s Community Radio Station, we are always excited to work with people and groups in and around Town. This project with Clip is an incredible opportunity to give young people the chance to get their voices heard within the local community.
“The students have been fantastic so far, full of ideas they want to share with our listeners. The students have been getting to grips with all the elements that go into creating content for broadcast radio and it’s giving them the chance to gain confidence, learn new skills, get creative, expand their knowledge and expertise and gives them the opportunity to interact with others.”
Clip, a charity, supports more than 3,500 participants each year across its centres in Gainsborough, Market Rasen and Mablethorpe, offering qualifications, vocational training, tailored learning and wellbeing support to people of all ages.
