An Acis Group apprentice joiner has taken a major step forward in his training thanks to partnership working with construction specialist Lindum Homes.

Tom Hunt, 19, is a Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery apprentice working in Acis Group’s maintenance and voids service.

As part of his apprenticeship, Tom needed to demonstrate skills beyond his day-to-day role to meet the requirements of his qualification.

After a gap was identified in Tom’s learning plan, Acis worked with long-standing development partner Lindum Homes to secure additional on-site experience.

As a result, Tom completed a five‑week placement on live Lindum Homes developments at Charterholme in Lincoln and Heath View in Waddington.

During the placement, Tom gained hands-on experience across a wide range of carpentry and joinery tasks, including installing roof trusses, floor joists and coverings, staircases, stud work, window boards, door linings, soffits, fascias and kitchens.

He also had the opportunity to work on Acis homes currently being built by Lindum Homes at Waddington, giving him valuable insight into new‑build affordable housing.

The placement has significantly accelerated Tom’s progress towards completing his apprenticeship, which he is aiming to finish by September.

Tom said: “The experience I’ve gained on Lindum Homes’ sites has helped me massively and I’m really grateful for the opportunity.

“It’s been a huge help in allowing me to evidence what I was missing. I managed to complete eight of the 15 portfolio write‑ups I needed during the placement, which has made a big difference to my progress.”

Jason Broughton, Head of Repairs Delivery at Acis, said: “Acis prides itself on supporting people to develop the skills they need for the careers they want.

“At a time when more than nine in ten construction employers report difficulties recruiting skilled trades, it is vital that apprentices receive high‑quality training and support from day one.

“Partnerships with organisations like Lindum Homes play a crucial role in addressing skills shortages and ensuring apprentices get the best possible start in their careers.

“This is a great example of how working closely with our partners creates real opportunities and delivers high‑quality learning experiences that benefit both apprentices and the wider industry.”

Matthew Hydes, Contracts Manager at Lindum Homes, added: “Our sites offer a strong learning environment for apprentices because of the exposure to a wide range of trades and activities.

“We were very happy to support Tom in gaining the evidence he needed to progress his training and wish him every success for the future.”

Acis has worked in partnership with Lindum Group for many years, delivering several successful developments across Lincolnshire.

These include 12 affordable homes at Hawks Chase in Welton, 50 bungalows and 10 flats at Paddock View in Saxilby, and The Campus for Future Living in Mablethorpe – a community hub commissioned by East Lindsey District Council and operated by Acis.

Lindum is also currently on site redeveloping the Grade II listed Market Rasen House into high‑quality Acis supported housing for adults with disabilities.
