A Lincolnshire training provider has expanded by launching a new Wellbeing and Learning Hub in Sleaford after receiving more than £440,000 from The National Lottery Community fund.
Abbey Access Training, which is part of Acis Group, has opened the new community space at Station House on Church Lane to offer a community space which provides opportunities for local people in and around Sleaford to improve their wellbeing, develop new skills and move towards employment.
Abbey Access Training is a charity that supports people to improve their wellbeing, develop sector-specific skills and prepare for work in hospitality, catering and construction.
Jess Dennett, Wellbeing Manager at Abbey Access Training, said: “We are delighted to have a space that means we can grow our provision community support and provide a central space for partners to share resources and encourage valuable partnership working.”
The hub brings together a range of wellbeing, learning and employment programmes, including one-to-one employment support, wellbeing activities and skills development, alongside Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English.
The team at Abbey Access Training has also expanded with two new Employability Project Officers who will be based at the Wellbeing and Learning Hub on Church Lane.
The team applied for The National Lottery Community fund around a year ago and it was approved in May. Since then, they’ve been busy looking at a properties to suit their needs before finding the right one at Station House.
The £442,100 of The National Lottery Community fund is for a three-year period and has allowed them to secure and set up the new space for their needs, start a new one to one employability programme and cover all of their wellbeing provision in Sleaford, both at Station House and in the community.
Gail Dunn, Chief Executive at Abbey Access Training, said: “It’s great to have a space in town for people, a calm meeting space.
“It’s a home for us and I think that we’ll be able to see people using more of our facilities because of it.”
Jess added: “One of the nicest things is working as a team and not in isolation, we’ll be able to support each other better.
“We wanted to be able to expand what we do and reach different groups in the community, to be completely inclusive. This space allows us to offer more to the people of the town.”
Hilary Jones, Employability Project Officer at Abbey Access Training, said: “It’s so exciting to bring this to Sleaford, I was doing employability before but had nowhere to go and meet people.”
