It’s the time of year where the skies light up and people celebrate into the new year.

While it is an exciting time for all who celebrate, here are some ways you can stay safe this year.

If you are attending an event with fireworks, please follow all the safety precautions in place. If you’re using fireworks at home, make sure you are handling fireworks with care and beaware of your surroundings. Make sure only a responsible adult is lighting fireworks, and these are stored in a metal box beforehand.

Make sure children are always supervised and are away from naked flames and fireworks.

Make sure any sparklers are lit at arm’s length, wear gloves when holding them and make sure they are stored in a bucket of sand or water afterwards.

You should always make sure you’re out of the way of flames and fireworks but in case of emergency, use the stop, drop and roll rule if you come into contact with a flame.

Celebrate safely and make sure that any popping of champagne bottles are  at 45 degrees and aware from people. And have fun!
