It’s the time of year where the skies light up and everyone is jolly warming up with hot chocolates around a bonfire.

We appreciate for most this is a happy time of year with it being a build up to the festive season. While bonfire night is an exciting time for all who celebrate here are some ways you can stay safe this year…

  1. If you are attending a bonfire, please follow all the safety precautions in place. Stay away from the bonfire and if you are building your own ensure it is built in a safe place away from trees, houses, or other hazards.
  2. Make sure children are always supervised and are away from naked flames and fireworks.
  3. Make sure only a responsible adult is lighting fireworks, and these are stored in a metal box beforehand.
  4. Making sure any sparklers are lit at arm’s length, you wear gloves when holding them and make sure they are stored in a bucket of sand or water afterwards.
  5. Remember the stop, drop and roll rule. You should always make sure you’re out of the way of flames and fireworks but in case of emergency and you come into contact with a flame. Stop what you’re doing, drop to the floor and roll around to help extinguish the flame.

As the fireworks light up the nights sky, they pop, they crack, and they bang. Lets not forget our pets that stay at home. Here are four ways to keep them safe and comfortable this bonfire night…

  1. Walk dogs during the day and not while a display is taking place and making sure cats are in the house during a firework display.
  2. Try to drown out noises by playing the T.V or music slightly louder than normal.
  3. Let your dog or cat take refuge in a corner or under a chair.
  4. Close curtains or blinds so that they can’t see the fireworks

Finally, we would like to wish you a safe and enjoyable bonfire night.
