At Acis Group, safety isn’t just about rules and regulations, it’s about people. Whether it’s our customers, contractors or colleagues, we want everyone to feel safe, supported and protected when they work with us or live in our homes.

That’s why, in May 2024, we decided to set ourselves a big challenge. Instead of sticking with the usual Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS), which helps with tendering but doesn’t go deep into how we care for people, we wanted to go further.

So, we aimed for ISO 45001 accreditation it’s the international gold standard for occupational health and safety. It’s about creating a culture where risks are reduced, mental and physical wellbeing are prioritised, and safety becomes part of everyday life.

What does this mean for Acis?

  • We now have globally recognised systems in place to keep people safe.

  • It shows that we’re serious about protecting the health and wellbeing of everyone; customers, colleagues, contractors and partners.

  • We’re committed to continuous improvement. ISO 45001 isn’t a one-off; it’s about continuous improvement.

How did we do it?

We started working towards the standard in September 2024. We chose the British Assessment Bureau (BAB) as our auditors because they don’t just hand out certificates, they make sure you’ve earned them. And that’s exactly what we wanted.

In February 2025, they carried out a gap analysis to show us where we needed to improve. We spent months building on this feedback, bringing in better processes, refreshing our documentation and working across teams to get things right.

This month, after a three-day final audit, we passed!

Health and Safety Manager, Leigh Paddon said: “Everyone who was called upon during this process went above and beyond. It was a real team effort across Acis, and that’s what makes this even more special. This isn’t about ticking a box, it’s about making sure we’re always looking out for each other. The work doesn’t stop here. We’ll keep improving every day.”

Did You Know?

  • ISO 45001 is used in over 150 countries.

  • It covers not just physical risks but mental wellbeing too.

  • We’ll be audited every year to make sure we’re keeping up the high standards.

So, what’s next?

  • The ISO 45001 certification lasts for three years, but we’ll be checked every year to make sure we’re not standing still.

  • We’ll keep reviewing how we do things, spotting ways to improve, and making Acis an even safer place to work and live.
