Gardens can be more than just beautiful spaces. They can be sources of peace, comfort and healing. Having been an Acis customer for 17 years, Jenny Turner has created a home and a garden that reflects her care, creativity and compassion. Through her commitment and dedication, she’s now proudly celebrating a well-deserved win in this year’s Acis in Bloom competition.
A personal touch
Jenny’s garden journey began as a personal one. After losing her partner, Simon, three years ago, she decided to create a special area in her Market Rasen garden to remember him. “It’s somewhere I can be with my thoughts,” she shared. “I have a Peace Rose for him. My dog, Tippy, passed away too, so I planted a Faithful Friend rose in memory.”
Her love for roses shines throughout the garden, but she enjoys a wide range of flowers too. Out front, she’s made things manageable and beautiful with gravel and potted plants. The back garden is where the real magic happens: a garden full of colour, with roses blooming alongside winter pansies, violas, and a variety of bulbs already in place for spring.
“It’s beautiful and my safe place,” Jenny says.
Winning Acis in Bloom
Jenny’s garden was one of 10 blooming entries into this year’s competition. But she hadn’t planned to enter until she spotted a promotional leaflet and decided to go for it.
Jenny had already put in so much love and care, which impressed the three independent judges.
Improvements made included:
-
Removing an old hedge and adding a new fence
-
Planting vibrant pots at the front and filling the back with blooms
-
Regularly feeding her roses with liquid and powdered feeds
-
Installing water butts to help through dry spells.
Jenny was over the moon when she found out she had won Acis in Bloom. “I was really surprised. I wasn’t expecting it!”
It’s not just the judges who’ve noticed her garden. “My neighbours always comment on how lovely and colourful it looks,” she said. “There’s one lady who walks past with her dog every day, and she always compliments it.”
From Jenny’s rose-filled garden to the vibrant and creative spaces cultivated by all our entrants, each person brought something truly special to Acis in Bloom. Jenny’s heartfelt approach to life beautifully reflects the spirit of the competition, and we’re proud to celebrate her win. We’re equally grateful to every participant for sharing their passion and helping make our community bloom with colour, care and connection.
